The campus begins hosting the Midwest Writers' Conference, a "cooperative venture between the Greater Canton Writers' Guild and KSUSC." "The conference will feature workshops where aspiring and accomplished writers will meet with distinguished authors, editors and literary agents." Enrollment reaches 2,979. A survey of freshmen at KSUSC revealed that the average age was 18 and "male enrollment was four percent higher than that of females." 91% lived at home with parents or relatives.

04/23/1980A Stark graduate becomes the first female deputy in the Stark County Sheriff's department. Artwork by a Trumbull campus professor will be on display in the art gallery. The Stark campus plans to host the Midwest Writers' Conference in the fall.
