Leon Adams, author and founder of the Wine Institute, spends several days in the region gathering materials for the revised edition of his classic Wines of America. According to the New York Times, Adams is “considered by wine aficionados and the wine industry to be the seminal wine historian in the United States in the 20th century.”
Several Ohio wineries still in operation are featured in this edition of Wines of America including Markko Vineyards, Grand River Wine Company, now called Grand River Cellars, Heineman’s Winery, Lonz Winery, Meier’s Wine Cellars, and Debonne Vineyards. Other existing Ohio wineries briefly mentioned include Klingshirn Winery, John Christ Winery, Valley Vineyards, Moyer Vineyard, and Mon Ami Winery.
